The course objective is to train welder divers who are serious about pursuing a career in wet welding or who wish to improve on their current wet welding capabilities and gain a recognised wet welding qualification. No previous experience is required for the basic course as the courses are modular so students can develop skills over a period of time.

The courses systematically guide students through various tasks designed to improve their wet welding skills and provide a sound foundation for the subsequent tasks. The courses have been developed on a modular basis and on successful completion of the initial 10 day course students will be able to enrol on additional courses to further their skills in the 4F overhead position, 5F all positional pipe to plate or butt welds in all positions.

Whilst no previous underwater welding experience is necessary, an understanding of topside welding, both theoretical and practical, would be a significant advantage to any student wishing to enrol. This knowledge would help the student progress more rapidly though the courses and increase the likelihood of satisfactorily completing the welder performance coupons to the standard required by the AWS D3.6 - 93 class 'B' welds.  Basic surface welding courses can be arranged prior to wet welding courses at an additional fee and subject to student numbers.

The courses are open to both individual commercial divers and diving contractors alike. Commercial diving contractor who wish to sponsor a number of welder divers on a project specific wet welding course are welcome to discuss their individual requirements. These requirements may include the development and qualification of welding procedures in addition to the qualification of wet welders to the specific welding procedures.
